Estimate the Total Contributions Approach rate

The 2026 maximum State Pension Contributory personal rate at age 66 is €299.30 a week. Under the Total Contributions Approach, 2,080 reckonable contributions produce the maximum rate and a lower total can produce a proportionate rate once the minimum qualification conditions are met.

Contributions included

  • Full-rate paid PRSI contributions.
  • Credited contributions, capped at 520 in this illustration.
  • HomeCaring periods.
  • A combined maximum of 1,040 credited and HomeCaring periods.

Why this is not an entitlement decision

At least 520 paid contributions are generally required. During the transition to the Total Contributions Approach, the Department also compares the applicable combined Yearly Average and TCA calculation and awards the more favourable result. This calculator shows the TCA route only and does not calculate deferred claiming rates, foreign insurance, Long-Term Carers Contributions, qualified-adult increases or other allowances.
