Illustrate a final-salary defined benefit
Defined-benefit schemes do not all use the same formula. Enter the pensionable salary, reckonable service, pension accrual denominator and any separate lump-sum accrual shown in your scheme information.
Understanding common formula formats
| Example formula | Calculator entries |
|---|---|
| 1/60 pension for each year, no automatic lump sum | Pension denominator 60; lump-sum numerator 0 |
| 1/80 pension plus 3/80 lump sum for each year | Pension denominator 80; lump-sum numerator 3; lump-sum denominator 80 |
If the scheme integrates benefits with the State Pension, enter only an offset confirmed by the scheme documents or administrator. The calculator caps service at 40 years for the illustration.
Why the official estimate may differ
Final pensionable remuneration, part-time service, breaks, transferred service, early or late retirement, preserved benefits, scheme integration, dependant benefits and commutation rules can materially change the result. Career-average and Single Public Service Pension Scheme benefits cannot be reliably estimated with a final-salary formula.
